In Kazakhstan, the approach to protecting the mental health of the population is changing: the emphasis is shifting from treating consequences to prevention, early detection, and support for a person at all stages.

These measures are provided for by the new Comprehensive Plan for Mental Health Protection for 2027-2030, which was considered at a meeting in the Government under the chairmanship of Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Culture and Information Aida Balaeva.

Akmaral Alnazarova reported on the new approaches. Today, specialized assistance is provided by two republican clinics, 20 regional mental health centers, 98 primary centers, and more than 200 mental health offices in rural areas. At the same time, the conducted analysis showed the need for further development of the service.

The new Comprehensive Plan provides for the integration of mental health specialists into the work of polyclinics, the development of early diagnostics, digitalization of the patient route, strengthening of personnel potential, and updating of infrastructure. Special attention will be paid to children and adolescents.

In the course of developing the Comprehensive Plan, specialized agencies presented their proposals aimed at the development of scientific research, improvement of specialist training, updating of educational programs, advanced training of teachers and psychologists, as well as further development of the system of special social services and infrastructure for children and adults with disabilities.

After hearing the reports of the ministries and regional akimats, the Comprehensive Plan for Mental Health Protection for 2027-2030 was approved.
