Olzhas Bektenov held talks with the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers - Head of the Presidential Administration of the Kyrgyz Republic Adylbek Kassymaliyev, who arrived in Almaty to participate in the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council. Issues of trade and economic cooperation, cooperation in water, transport and logistics, energy, cultural and humanitarian spheres, tourism, etc. were discussed.
Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov noted that the active political dialogue between the Heads of State of the two countries President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and President of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov brought to a new level the whole range of bilateral cooperation and ensured high dynamics in all sectors. The volume of bilateral trade for the first 11 months of last year has increased and reached $1.6 billion. The importance of maintaining the positive trend and improving the structure of trade with the expansion of the range of goods supplied was emphasised. For its part, Kazakhstan is ready to increase exports of products in 175 items worth more than $203 million. Among them are products of petrochemical, food industry, metallurgy, mechanical engineering, pharmaceuticals, construction materials, etc. Kazakhstan is ready to increase exports of goods.
Attention is paid to cooperation in the agricultural sector, which accounts for about 20 per cent of mutual trade. A roadmap for increasing mutual supplies of agricultural products is being implemented. Trade turnover in the agro-industrial complex for the first 11 months of 2024 increased by 5.5% and amounted to $313.6 million. At the same time, grain exports from Kazakhstan amounted to 40.4 thousand tonnes, flour - 53.2 thousand tonnes.
A key aspect of bilateral co-operation is investment cooperation with a view to establishing joint ventures in the industrial sector. In this area, a number of promising joint projects are being developed that could significantly strengthen industrial co-operation. One of them is the construction of a ferroalloy plant in Tash-Kumyr, the opening of which will be an important signal for big business of the two countries. Overall, trade turnover of industrial goods between the countries for the first 11 months of 2024 totalled $985.5 million, up 3.9% from 2023. At the same time, exports from the ROK increased by 13.5%.
The parties also considered issues of cooperation in the water and energy sector. It was noted that thanks to joint measures, the 2024 irrigation season passed without losses. Special attention was paid to the issue of ensuring a safe non-vegetation period in the Shu and Talas river basins this year.
One of the important issues on the bilateral agenda is to increase transport and transit potential. For 9 months of 2024, the volume of export-import cargo transportation by road increased by 16% and amounted to 1.7 million tonnes. In this regard, considered the ongoing work to increase the capacity of the joint border, as well as the attractiveness of transit for cargo carriers.
Following the talks, the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan and the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan confirmed the readiness to expand trade and economic cooperation.
