Olzhas Bektenov Discussed with Hunan Junxin Head Dai Daogo Prospects for Expanding Waste-to-Energy Cooperation

Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Olzhas Bektenov held a meeting with the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hunan Junxin Environmental Protection Co., Ltd. Dai Daogo.

The progress of the project for the construction of a waste-to-energy plant in Almaty was discussed. According to the investment agreement previously signed between the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources and Hunan Junxin Environmental Protection Co., Ltd., work on the investment project worth 145 billion tenge began in May of this year.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hunan Junxin Environmental Protection Co., Ltd. Dai Daogo reported that the facility is being prepared for the start of construction and installation works. The enterprise with a capacity of up to 2,000 tons of waste per day will be able to generate up to 60 MW of electricity, reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 200,000 tons per year, and annually save about 800,000 m³ of landfill volume. It is planned to create at least 700 jobs during the construction phase and 120 permanent jobs after launch.

Olzhas Bektenov noted that the Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev pays special attention to issues of environmental responsibility and the formation of an ecological culture. In the New Constitution, environmental protection is enshrined as one of the fundamental principles of state policy and civic responsibility. It was emphasized that agreements at the highest level create favorable conditions for the further development of trade and economic cooperation.

In addition, during the meeting, prospects for expanding cooperation in the field of waste disposal through the implementation of similar projects in other regions of Kazakhstan were discussed.

Following the meeting, the Prime Minister instructed the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources and other responsible government agencies to urgently study all aspects of further cooperation jointly with the company and, within a month, prepare for signing agreements on the construction of waste disposal plants in a number of major cities.

As previously reported, the Government is working on the issue of building waste disposal plants in Karaganda, Atyrau, Aktobe, Pavlodar and other cities.
