Olzhas Bektenov Discusses Investment Cooperation with EBRD, ExxonMobil and Marubeni

Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Olzhas Bektenov held a series of meetings with President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Odile Renaud-Basso, Senior Vice President of ExxonMobil Peter Larden, and Managing Executive Officer of Marubeni Corporation Satoru Ichinokawa, who arrived in Astana to participate in the 38th Plenary Session of the Foreign Investors’ Council under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

During the meetings, prospects for further expansion of cooperation were discussed in the context of tasks for economic development and implementation of the new investment cycle set by President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev for the Government at the joint session of the chambers of Parliament.

At the meeting with EBRD President Odile Renaud-Basso, issues of increasing investment cooperation in the construction and modernization of social, transport, industrial, and engineering infrastructure, digitalization and artificial intelligence, as well as strengthening interaction in the financial sector and measures to support business were discussed.

The Prime Minister noted the significant role of the Bank in improving the investment climate and sustainable development of Kazakhstan’s economy. Over the years of joint work, the EBRD portfolio in the country has reached 354 projects with a total amount of $12.7 billion in the spheres of small and medium-sized businesses, finance, housing and communal services, energy, agriculture, and information technology.

Odile Renaud-Basso reported that this year the volume of EBRD investments in Kazakhstan’s economy will reach a historic level: to date, projects in Kazakhstan have been financed in the amount of over 800 million euros. Overall, by the end of the year, it is expected that the inflow of investments may exceed 1.3 billion euros.

Following the meeting, the parties confirmed their readiness for further expansion of cooperation and implementation of new joint projects.

During the negotiations with Senior Vice President of ExxonMobil Peter Larden, current production indicators and issues of further technological development were considered. ExxonMobil participates in the implementation of major joint projects – Tengiz, Kashagan, and the Caspian Pipeline Consortium. The parties noted the fruitful nature of cooperation and confirmed their readiness for further strengthening of interaction.

At the meeting with Managing Executive Officer of Marubeni Corporation Satoru Ichinokawa, prospects for further development of Kazakh-Japanese economic cooperation were discussed. It was noted that Marubeni is a long-standing and reliable partner of Kazakhstan in the field of energy and industrial production. The parties emphasized the importance of further strengthening business ties and expanding practical interaction between the business communities of the two countries.

Following the meetings, the parties confirmed their interest in further strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation, implementing existing projects, and developing new investment initiatives in priority sectors of Kazakhstan’s economy.
