Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, during a working trip to the West Kazakhstan Region, reviewed the progress of implementing the President’s instructions on the development of the oil and gas industry.
In the Burlin District, the Head of Government visited the Karachaganak oil and gas condensate field and the Chinarevskoye field. The visit focused on modernization and production capacity utilization, increasing local content in the oil and gas sector, workforce training, and other key areas.
Olzhas Bektenov familiarized himself with the technological processes of the Karachaganak Processing Complex for the stabilization, purification, and processing of oil condensate. The facility is part of the key production infrastructure of the Karachaganak oil and gas condensate field—one of the largest in the world—with remaining recoverable reserves of 279 million tons of oil and 785 billion cubic meters of gas.
Marco Marsili, General Director of Karachaganak Petroleum Operating B.V., briefed the Prime Minister on current production indicators, plans for implementing future projects, and measures being taken under corporate social responsibility. The first phase of the Karachaganak Expansion Project (KEP-1A) has been launched, aimed at improving gas reinjection efficiency and ensuring production stability. As a result, 7.5 billion cubic meters of gas were supplied to the domestic market, accounting for about 26% of Kazakhstan’s total supply.
The Prime Minister noted that the oil and gas sector remains an important driver of industrial growth. Every year, Kazakhstan produces over 85 million tons of oil and about 55 billion cubic meters of gas. These volumes have been stably maintained thanks to the introduction of modern technologies and the development of large fields. The Government is consistently implementing a strategy of rational subsoil use—from increasing production to deepening processing and expanding the petrochemical industry. In addition, the importance of supporting Kazakhstani manufacturers and further increasing the share of domestically produced goods in procurement was emphasized.
In the Baiterek District, the Prime Minister reviewed the operations of ZhAikMunai LLP, which specializes in the processing of commercial gas. At the Chinarevskoye field, a number of modern facilities operate, supported by developed infrastructure including a rail oil terminal, gas pipeline, shift camps, and other facilities. The gas processing plant has a production capacity of 4.2 billion cubic meters of gas per year, with work underway to increase plant utilization.
