In Uralsk, Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov reviewed the implementation of the President’s instructions on infrastructure development, urban improvement, and flood prevention measures. In particular, he visited houses built for families affected by the 2024 floods and inspected the embankment along the Zhaiyk River as an example of completed bank protection works.
In total, 889 houses have been constructed in the West Kazakhstan Region for families affected by the floods, including 451 residential houses in the city of Uralsk. Construction was fully completed in September 2024, after which the homes were handed over to the families. To date, all houses have been provided with the necessary engineering infrastructure.
The Prime Minister also inspected the bank protection works along the Zhaiyk River and the reconstruction of the river embankment. A dam 383.6 meters long was built to protect the riverbank, riverbed, and nearby residential buildings. Overall, in the region, 143 kilometers of protective dams and 9 kilometers of drainage canals have been constructed, and 74 kilometers of main channels have been cleared to safeguard settlements from flooding.
Reconstruction of the embankment was carried out from May to September of this year. According to the project, to prevent flooding, the river embankment was raised to a higher level. The entire area has been fully landscaped and equipped with decorative fencing.
On an area of 8,000 square meters, sidewalks were laid, 102 street lamps installed, over 16,000 square meters of lawn planted, and 768 ornamental trees placed. A children’s playground, sports ground, workout zone, and other recreational areas have also been renovated.
