Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov held a meeting with the Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer of Chevron Michael Wirth on cooperation in the field of oil production and refining.
The parties discussed the implementation of existing joint projects, prospects for the development of domestic oil and gas chemistry on the example of the first polypropylene plant KPI and construction of the largest polyethylene complex with a capacity of 1.25 million tonnes of products per year. The construction of a new gas processing plant with a capacity of 4.5 billion m3 of raw gas per year at the Karachaganak field was also discussed.
Attention was paid to the implementation of the Future Expansion Project (FEP) at the Tengiz field. Olzhas Bektenov emphasised the need to further increase local content through the development of an industrial cluster at Tengiz, focused on increasing domestic added value. This will give impetus to the development of small and medium-sized businesses. Taking into account the recommendations of the Ministry of Energy, the need to update design solutions for the rational development of Tengiz reserves, as well as the preparation of a programme to maintain a high level of industrial safety was noted.
In addition, the issues of diversifying oil transportation routes and building new energy supply chains were discussed.
