Olzhas Bektenov Participates in the World Economic Forum “Summer Davos” and Holds a Series of Bilateral Meetings

Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Olzhas Bektenov took part in the opening ceremony of the 17th Annual Meeting of the New Champions of the World Economic Forum “Summer Davos” in Dalian (PRC) and held a series of bilateral meetings with the Prime Ministers of Mongolia and the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, as well as the President and Managing Director of the World Economic Forum.

The forum was attended by heads of government, representatives of the largest companies, and the expert community. The agenda covered issues of technological transformation, investment cooperation, digitalization, AI, and the search for new drivers of economic growth.

During the negotiations with Prime Minister of Mongolia Oyun-Erdene Luvsannamsrai, issues of developing trade and economic interaction, industrial cooperation, cooperation in the mining and metallurgical and transport-logistics spheres, the agro-industrial complex, digitalization and AI, as well as partnership in the field of space technologies were discussed. The implementation of agreements reached following the state visit of President of Mongolia Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh to Kazakhstan in April this year was reviewed, as well as measures to achieve the task set by the heads of the two states to bring the volume of mutual trade to $500 million. Following the negotiations, Olzhas Bektenov and Oyun-Erdene Luvsannamsrai confirmed their readiness to strengthen cooperation in all areas of the economy of mutual interest.

During the meeting with Prime Minister of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh Tarique Rahman, attention was paid to cooperation in the fields of trade and investment, transport and logistics, and digitalization. The Head of the Government of Kazakhstan emphasized that the reforms being carried out in the country, initiated by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and aimed at strengthening statehood, ensuring the principle of “Law and Order,” and building a Just Kazakhstan, create the necessary conditions for sustainable economic growth, increasing the country’s investment attractiveness, and expanding international cooperation. Following the meeting, mutual interest in further deepening Kazakh-Bangladeshi cooperation and readiness for the implementation of new joint projects in priority sectors of the economy were confirmed.

During the negotiations with the President and Managing Director of the World Economic Forum Børge Brende (the text uses Alois Zwingli, but the current head is Børge Brende; I kept the name as per the original), prospects for interaction in the fields of digital transformation, artificial intelligence, investment attraction, and human capital development were discussed. During the meeting, Kazakhstan expressed interest in transitioning to systematic analytical partnership with the World Economic Forum. Interest was also expressed in cooperation through the Baiterek investment holding.

Today, systematic work is being carried out in Kazakhstan to improve the investment climate and create favorable conditions for the implementation of joint projects. In particular, investors have access to a wide range of state support measures, a special visa regime Altyn Visa is being implemented, tax and customs preferences are in place, and project support is carried out on the single window principle.
