Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Olzhas Bektenov held a meeting of the Board of Directors of Kazakh Tourism Development Ltd. The issues of implementing the Almaty Superski tourism project were discussed within the framework of the tasks set by the President in the Address regarding the development of the Almaty ski cluster.
Chief Executive Officer of Kazakh Tourism Development Ltd. Yerzhan Yerkinbayev presented the updated master plan of the Almaty Superski resort, developed jointly with the world-renowned company Pas Grau International (PGI).
The project takes into account the use of modern technologies in the production of ski equipment, satellite data for climate and terrain analysis, and the introduction of "green" standards. The project is based on the best global practices applied at more than 120 resorts worldwide.
President of PGI Joan Viladomat emphasized the importance of the site selected for construction, located near the metropolis. This will ensure a steady flow of tourists and allow the resort to take leading positions in the region from the first years of operation. According to him, the presence of the metropolis’s developed infrastructure—hotels, restaurants, and transport links—will make it possible to minimize construction directly at the resort.
When preparing the master plan, special attention was paid to environmental standards. The document was developed in accordance with Kazakhstani and international environmental standards, based on the principles of sustainable development and modern approaches to organizing ecological year-round tourism.
As a result of the project’s implementation, it is expected that Almaty’s international image as a center of winter and eco-tourism will be strengthened, as well as the attraction of investments in the hotel business, transport, services, and SMEs.
Olzhas Bektenov emphasized the importance of complying with environmental standards during the construction of the facility, stressing that the project must be implemented strictly in accordance with national and international legislation, with minimal impact on the environment and careful preservation of the region’s natural balance.
Following the meeting, the master plan was approved by the Board of Directors and will serve as the basis for the preparation of the feasibility study and project-estimate documentation.
The Almaty Superski project is intended to become a driver of tourism development in the country, provide new opportunities for residents and guests of Kazakhstan, and contribute to achieving national goals for economic diversification.
