Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of National Economy Serik Zhumangarin met with a delegation of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (SB RAS), headed by Vice President of the RAS and Chairman of the SB RAS, Academician Valentin Parmon.
A delegation of scientists from Novosibirsk arrived in Kazakhstan to strengthen cooperation in the field of science and technology. During the visit, special attention was paid to the exchange of best practices in the formation and development of high-tech territories. In particular, the creation of a joint working group was discussed to implement elements of the Novosibirsk scientific and innovation ecosystem in Kazakhstan as a model for the establishment of science cities.
As noted by Serik Zhumangarin, the experience of Koltsovo and Akademgorodok is of great interest to Kazakhstan:
“These are unique examples of how science, education, and innovation can be integrated into a single system, creating conditions for the commercialization of knowledge and technological development of regions,” the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized.
Kazakhstan is currently working on the creation of science cities in the Almaty Region and the city of Kurchatov. The key areas include energy, biotechnology, food security, information technology and artificial intelligence, new materials, and nuclear technologies.
Vice President of the RAS Valentin Parmon noted that the delegation includes specialists directly involved in the development of the Koltsovo science city infrastructure. As part of their visit, they have already toured the National Oncology Center in Astana, KMG Engineering, and held a meeting with the Minister of Higher Education and Science.
The Kazakh side expressed interest in joint projects in the field of coal chemistry and the development of artificial intelligence models capable of assessing the impact of various factors on GDP and the national economy.
“We are multidisciplinary and ready to offer our expertise for any tasks. For example, our sulfur processing technologies could be useful for Kazakhstan,” Academician Valentin Parmon said.
Professor, Candidate of Economic Sciences Zhaksybek Kulekeev, who heads the working group on the Technoqala project, highlighted the high potential for cooperation with the Siberian Branch of the RAS in the field of nuclear medicine and petrochemistry. He noted that the equipment and developments in the Novosibirsk and Tomsk regions demonstrate significant results that could be scaled up through joint efforts.
Special attention during the meeting was given to the prospects for the development of the city of Kurchatov. According to Serik Zhumangarin, its future is directly linked to science and the commercialization of technologies.
In conclusion, the academicians proposed organizing the Days of Culture and Science of Kazakhstan in the Novosibirsk Akademgorodok. The Deputy Prime Minister presented Valentin Parmon with a letter of appreciation on behalf of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan for his contribution to the development of Kazakh-Russian scientific cooperation.
