Kazakhstan and South Korea's CONTEC Space Group work out cooperation in space industry

In Seoul, Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan Zhaslan Madiyev visited the assembly and testing complex of CONTEC Space Group, one of South Korea's key space industry companies. Prospects for joint technological and investment projects were discussed during a meeting with Lee Sung-hee, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the company.

During the negotiations, the parties reviewed CONTEC's plans to direct investments into the Ghalam project, opportunities for joint production of satellites and their components, and the development of a ground station network.

One promising area is the establishment of a manufacturing hub in Kazakhstan for the production of satellite components, with subsequent supplies to markets in Central Asia, the Middle East, and Europe. Localization of large-scale ground antenna system manufacturing is also under consideration.

Special attention was paid to developing satellite imagery processing using artificial intelligence. The application of AI will expand capabilities for analyzing Earth remote sensing data and utilizing it for practical tasks.

CONTEC Space Group unites CONTEC, Asia Pacific Satellite Corporation, and Texas Space Communication. The group supplies onboard computers for South Korean state satellites and manages 17 ground stations worldwide, including facilities in Chile, the USA, South Africa, and Australia.

The establishment of a Kazakh subsidiary of CONTEC and further elaboration of partnership parameters are expected in the near future. Cooperation details are scheduled to be presented during the state visit of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Republic of Korea.

Implementing these discussed initiatives will expand the capabilities of Kazakhstani enterprises in manufacturing space technology, develop competencies in satellite data processing, and enable entry into new export markets.
