Localization of Pfizer drugs production to boost Kazakhstan pharmaceutical industry — Alikhan Smailov

On the margins of the VI Kazakhstan Global Investment Roundtable, Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov met with representatives of Pfizer, Lasselsberger Group and Al Rajhi International for Investment (RAII).

In conversation with the regional president of Pfizer Patrick van der Loo, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of implementation of all initiatives and investment projects of the company in Kazakhstan. In particular, now there is an active joint work on localization of production of vaccine Prevenar 20. Long-term agreement on the project was signed in the framework of KGIR-2023 in Astana. 

It was noted that during the years of application of Prevenar 13 vaccine (previous generation) in the Republic of Kazakhstan there was a 50% decrease in the incidence of pneumonia in children. Alikhan Smailov expressed confidence that the project will continue to contribute to the successful immunization of the population.

Head of the Government also welcomed the company's plans to open a new regional office in the republic with coverage of the Caucasus, Central Asia and Mongolia.

"Kazakhstan is interested in attracting investment and advanced technologies. I am confident that localization of Pfizer drugs production will give impetus to the development of the pharmaceutical industry of our state," the Prime Minister said. 

At the meeting with the head of the Austrian company Lasselsberger Group Josef Lasselsberger discussed the construction of plants for the production of ceramic slabs, dry mixes and adhesives in Kazakhstan.

Alikhan Smailov noted that the dynamic development of the construction sector of Kazakhstan is directly reflected in the increase in demand for building materials. In general, since the beginning of the year in the country commissioned more than 13 million square meters of housing, which is 13.8% higher than last year.

"Kazakhstan is committed to long-term cooperation with such strategic investors as Lasselsberger. The government is ready to provide the necessary assistance in the implementation of new investment projects," the Prime Minister emphasized. 

Within the framework of the meeting with the Director General of Al Rajhi International for Investment, co-chairman of the Kazakhstan-Saudi Business Council Ahmed Ali Al Dakhil, topical issues of cooperation in the field of agriculture were considered. 

As noted by the Head of Government, Kazakhstan is interested in modernizing the systems of agro-industrial complex and the introduction of innovative agricultural marketing programs.

"In this context, signing a memorandum of cooperation with your company on the implementation of joint projects is an important step in strengthening our partnership. The agro-industrial complex of Kazakhstan has great potential for further development. For its part, the state provides active support to the subjects of agriculture," Alikhan Smailov said. 

As a result of all the meetings, agreements were reached to continue close interaction to strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation. 

Recall, within the VI Kazakhstan Round Table on Global Investments 26 memorandums and commercial documents were signed with investors for the realization of new projects in Kazakhstan. The total amount of agreements is $1.6 billion. Projects affect such sectors of the economy as agro-industrial complex, mining and metallurgy, health care, light industry, engineering, education, etc.
