Nurlibek Naliyev Discusses Major $10 Billion Aluminum Project with East Hope Group

First Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Nurlibek Naliyev held a meeting with Chen Lei, Director for Strategic Investments of East Hope Group.

The meeting discussed the implementation in Kazakhstan of a major investment project in the aluminum industry, which provides for the creation of production and energy facilities.

In particular, the company plans to launch a complex of productions in Kostanay Region with a total value of over $10 billion. The project includes the construction of a mining and processing plant for bauxite processing, an aluminum smelter, and a wind power station.

The parties reviewed the current status of the initiative, issues of ensuring the raw material base, development of energy infrastructure, and further cooperation with state bodies.

Following the meeting, Nurlibek Naliyev confirmed the Government’s intention to continue joint work on the implementation of this project.

For reference: East Hope Group is one of the world’s largest producers of electrolytic aluminum, alumina, and polysilicon. Since 2010, the company has invested about $10 billion in the creation of an integrated industrial park in China, including electrolytic aluminum production, industrial silicon and polysilicon production, as well as an autonomous power plant with a capacity of 4.2 GW. The project created 10,700 direct and more than 30,000 indirect jobs.
