Prime Minister Bakytzhan Sagintayev together with the Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic Mukhammedkalyi Abylgaziev took part in the official opening ceremony of the Chingiz Aitmatov Street located in the new developing region of the left bank of Astana.

The opening of the street named after the great writer Chingiz Aitmatov is a confirmation of friendly and brotherly relations between Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, demonstrates the commitment of the two countries to strengthening friendship.

Creativity and lifestyle of Chingiz Aitmatov are directly connected with the land of Kazakhstan. It is no accident that in his memoirs he wrote: "When I go abroad, there are two talismans that always protect me: the first is the epic Manas, and the second is Mukhtar Auezov."

"Chingiz Aitmatov is in fact equal for both peoples — our common pride. We all grew reading the works of a great writer. And today the younger generation enjoys Aitmatov’s works, because his work is very close to us. It contains the fate and deep roots of the two fraternal peoples," Sagintayev said in his speech.

Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Abylgaziev sincerely thanked the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev for the decision to assign one of the streets to the name of the great writer.

"Chingiz Aitmatov is the national property of the Kazakh and Kyrgyz peoples. It is gratifying that one of the streets of the capital of Kazakhstan are named after him, because Astana is one of the main and prosperous cities of Eurasia. I also want to congratulate all Kazakhstanis on the 20th anniversary of Astana — a symbol of independent Kazakhstan. We sincerely rejoice in all the achievements of the fraternal Kazakh people," said Abylgaziev. To date, there are streets in Bishkek named after Abay, Valikhanov and Auezov.

It is worth noting that Aitmatov Street (formerly named No. 199 street) is the main road of general importance and has eight lanes. The street was built and put into operation in 2016 on the stretch from Korgalzhinsky highway to E-10 (Syganak) with a length of 1.8 km. To date, the construction of the street from E-10 to Uly Dala Str. with a length of 3 km. Provision of travel on this site is planned in 2019. Full completion and commissioning is expected in 2020.

Deputy Chief Architect of Astana Anton Maximov reported on further plans for the development of the street and the adjacent territories.

"Chingiz Aitmatov Street is one of the main streets of the capital, a transport highway that is part of the ring road, which in turn will start functioning by 2020. At the same time, it is the completion of the axis of Nurzhol Boulevard on Lake Taldykol, around which active construction is underway. In this area, all the facilities are new, there are no reconstructed facilities. There are two million m² of housing, hundreds of buildings along the street, thousands of apartments will receive the addresses of the name of Chingiz Aitmatov," Maximov said.

In addition, according to the deputy chief architect of the capital, along the entire length of the street, starting from the Kurgaldzhyn highway along the lake Taldykol, it is planned to create a new recreational area where parks and infrastructure facilities will be located.

"This year we will finish the design and begin the continuation of the street in a southerly direction to Uly Dala Street. Chingiz Aitmatov Street on the east side is a building in progress, and practically the whole western side is a recreational zone, Taldykol Lake, which is subject to reclamation, landscaping. There is a great connection between the city of Frunze that was in the Soviet Union and was one of the most greened cities and the Aitmatov Street in Astana, which should become one of the greenest in the city," Maximov summed up.

Chingiz Aitmatov (1928-2008) is a well-known Kyrgyz writer, statesman. Honorary academician of European academies, repeatedly elected deputy to the Supreme Soviet of the USSR and Kyrgyzstan. Laureate of the Peace and Spiritual Accord of the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev (1993).
