The event was also attended by the President of Turkey R. Erdogan, the Prime Minister of Uzbekistan A. Aripov, the Prime Minister of Georgia G. Kvirikashvili, the Minister of Transport of Tajikistan H. Khudoerzoda, the Minister of Railway Transport of Turkmenistan D. Byashimov.
During the opening, the ceremony of symbolic ‘golden spike’ driving and the transfer of the railway arrow took place, as well as the opening of the memorial plaque.
For reference: The BTK railway is one of the important sections of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Corridor, it connects the railway networks of Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey. The introduction of the highway will allow Kazakhstan to get new routes to the Black and Mediterranean Seas.
The new railway will expand the geography of cargo transportation along the corridor with access to Turkey and reach, by 2020, transportation of up to two million containers per year through Kazakhstan.
Also, Kazakhstan's locomotives produced by Lokomotiv Kurastyru Zauyty and Electric Locomotive Zauyty will be used on the sections of the new Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway corridor. For these purposes, 10 locomotives have already been delivered and are operating, and by 2020, Kazakhstan will supply 40 cargo electric locomotives to Azerbaijan.
